Volunteer of the Month

January

Daniel Sandberg

Daniel has volunteered with the Food and Care Coalition since 2011.  He was introduced to Food and Care through Jack and Janet Mahoney.  Daniel volunteers his time by helping make and donate sack lunches, cooking lunch on Sundays, and driving food deliveries.  He says that his most memorable experiences at Food and Care have been the opportunities that he has taken to get to know the individuals who come for help.  Daniel’s favorite quote is “Think globally. Act locally. Panic cosmically.”

February

Anne Parkes Armistead

Anne has shared her rich, soul stirring vocals and guitar music with the dinner guests at the Food and Care Coalition for a little over a year. After playing a song Anne wrote about her struggle with addiction, a gentlemen from the dinner guests left her a hand written note on a napkin. He wrote, “Thank you for sharing your song, it is something I can relate to and made me feel understood.” Anne stated it made her very happy to know something she had written touched someone else’s’ heart. In Anne’s spare time she studies Social Work at UVU. Anne’s favorite quote is “Everyone you know is fighting a battle you know nothing about, be kind always.” and Care Coalition.

March

Pope Family

You don’t have to travel all the way to the Vatican to meet the Popes. Instead you will find the Popes serving with a smile and some humor in the soup kitchen at the Food and Care Coalition. Bryan & Lisa Pope and their 10 children have been serving at the coalition for 10 years. They love to work together side by side in the kitchen as they give back to their community. Their passion is to help others achieve what is most important to them. Together they help accomplish this mission serving one meal at a time at the Food and Care Coalition.

April

Teresa Wong

Few people can bring life to the keyboard at the Food and Care Coalition like our April Volunteer of the Month, Teresa Wong. Rarely does she conclude a piece without a hardy round of applause from our dinner guests. Teresa’s heart of gold is not only demonstrated through her musical gift but also through her warm and welcoming demeanor. You can’t help but love Teresa! From Beethoven to Love Story Teresa stirs our hearts and enlivens the souls of all who hear her beautiful music and come in contact with this exceptional woman.

May

Joy Benson

Joy has volunteered with the Food and Care Coalition for around 20 years in many capacities, but especially with serving meals.  She loves the people she serves and the people she serves with, and her favorite event is Bowls for Humanity.  Joy enjoys walking, hiking, serving, and church service, and loves to read.  Her favorite book is the Book of Mormon.  Joy says that her passion in life is “to be needed and useful.”  She has always wanted to travel to Italy, but will be celebrating her retirement this year by traveling to Peru.  Her favorite quote is “Good, better, best- may you never rest, until your good is better and your better best.”

June

Bonnie & the Birthday Bunch

Bonnie & the Birthday Bunch have been volunteering at the Food and Care Coalition since January 2017.  They oversee the organization of monthly birthday parties for Food and Care clients and have a team of individuals who bake cupcakes, make birthday cards, purchase gift cards and balloons for the event. They also come in to help decorate the dining area and distribute the cupcakes after dinner.  When asked about their service, they said, “We love being a part of bringing humanity and sparkle into their lives. It’s an honor to recognize those having birthdays each month.”
